Dear Students,

the working group "Mechanics of Functional Materials" offers exciting topics concerning the surface investigation with the scanning force microscope (AFM) for project modules, Bachelor's and Master's theses:

  • elastic and plastic characterization of individual pharmaceutical powder granules,
  • modeling and controlling of AFM lithography on polymers,
  • friction on the atomic scale: extensions of the Prandtl-Tomlinson model,
  • effects on the AFM nanomanipulation of gold islands,
  • AFM investigations on metal adsorption on mineral surfaces,
  • folding effects in nanotribological characterizations with colloidal probes.
